Kaz blushed heavily. ”Um… thanks.” He felt like a complete idiot… but, on the plus side, she didn’t run away screaming. That has to be good, right? Instead of dwelling on it, however, he started humming along to the music, holding Jessi close. He hadn’t known her that long, but it was amazing… He supposed it was true. When guys fell in love, they really fell in love. Every time he looked at Jessi, he felt as if he had been hit between the eyes, stunned by her beauty and just… her. After Helen, he had never wanted to go near another girl, but now that seemed so distant, and he felt so safe. The more he thought about it, the more ridiculous it seemed, but he couldn’t help himself. He refused to say it out loud, though. If he said it out loud, it would become true, and how the hell would he deal with that? Okay, so she wanted to be with him, but wasn’t this far too intense for anything like that? ”You know, Jessi… I don’t want anything to change, and I don’t want this night to end,” Kaz sighed, meaning it.

Why had she been saying she couldn't love? Was it her that said that, or the hypocrites around the place? Both...yes, both. Every person in this town, or at least most of them, felt she had no heart...Ha! If she had no heart, how did it get broken by that b.astard, Jesse? Jessi sighed as she looked up at Kaz, smiling. "Well, I assume all good things have ta come to an end, right?..." Why did that seem so wrong to say? She let it go, and listened to the music and Kaz. Well, everyone had been wrong, hadn't they? She wasn't just some...some unloving, heartless monster taken care of by a mobster. The moment was going to be locked in her memory forever, so she kept her eyes open, and looked at Kaz, smiling. "You know what Ma used to tell me..? Always wait to be cought in the arms of love. It was something she told me every night before I went to sleep, but I never understood, ya know? Well, I think I get it now..."

”I guess so.” Kaz sighed, leaning forward and kissing Jessi’s forehead. ”I just…I don’t want to mess anything up, Jessi…” He swept his glance around the hall, and saw people he had never seen before, watching guys around his age looking on at him, enviously glaring at the unknown that was dancing with the beautiful girl. It made him uneasy, in a ridiculous way, as he knew that Jessi could have any guy she wanted, no question. Would he be good enough? A flash of memory returned to San Franciso, the first place that he and his mother had stayed before moving on to Knoxville for her work. Helen. The American girl that had caught his heart… She caught it, held it, then stomped on it, leaving an emptiness that he thought could never be filled. She brought him down constantly, telling him how useless he was, and how she could have anyone… He was the ‘worst guy’ she had ever been out with… Those were a few of the insults he had taken, and eventually believed. He had never told anyone, though, as what would be the point? Who would believe him anyway? No girl could be like that, surely?

His glazed expression disappeared as he looked back down to Jessi. ”I want to be good enough for you, Jessi… and all I can do is try…” He hoped she’d understand, and not be too scathing in her vocal views of him. He knew that she would be thinking things, but as long as he didn’t hear them aloud, he could try to ignore them, at best.

Good enough....why did anyone have to be good enough? Jessi never did understand guys that much, when it came to romance and all. Chase was the only guy she had known all her life, and to her, he was a weirdo. That's what siblings are supposed to think of each other, right? Then, there were Chunk and the other guys that hang out with Chase. All of them had to be on crack or SOMETHING for hanging out with her brother...maybe a sub-specie of human? The missing links? Whatever they were, they never made any sense when they started talking about girls. Made her sick, really. The fact that she was thinking about it is what worried her. She returned from her thoughts and looked at Kaz, still trying to understand. "Why does anyone try..? " She knew she thought everyone was perfect when they were born. Sure, some may have a few faults, but that didn't help pointing them out. Her for example; being born into that whole damn family was a mistake that no one could fix. But then again, it was a blessing at the same time. That's the balance. Push and pull, Yin and Yang..."Uh, if..if anyone's not good enough for someone else, that would have to be me." She wouldn't go into detail, it wasn't the time for explaining herself. No one ever looked passed the front, did they? Well, as she had been told, it's always hard to see the pain behind the mask. Sighing, she looked around the hall and her brow raised as she looked at everyone, even some of her old friends, though they were no friends to her. They looked as if a barrel of a gun was staring them in the face. What the hell was wrong? Shaking her head, she looked at Kaz. "Maybe we should leave....?"

Kaz was too busy feeling the angry gazes of others to have Jessi’s words truly sink in, and so left them alone. Perhaps he was right all along… the town was too close knit to allow obvious strangers to be part of the fold. He danced with her as she spoke, asking if he wanted to leave. ”I… I should be getting back anyway,” he lied, ”It’s getting late, I guess…” He wasn’t trying to get away from her, but he just felt as if he was the one embarrassing her in front of all of the people that she knew, and he hated it. Kaz already felt self-conscious with how different he was to the rest of the people his age, and he really didn’t need any more grief. It was amazing to see the look on people when he spoke… perhaps it was because in the American films, the British actor was always the bad guy, and they presumed too much. Hell, that theory was as good as any other.

At the same time, though, he didn’t really want to leave Jessi. He enjoyed spending time with her, and didn’t want to ruin the evening. Or maybe by staying he would end up ruining it… the thoughts ran wildly around his mind, unable to control them. It was ridiculous, he knew, but he always over-thought everything, so why change the habit of a lifetime?

"Oh...oh, alright, I guess...." Damn friends...wait, no they weren't her friends were they? Jessi hated these people at the moment. Their angry gazes meant nothing to her, but what they were thinking did. Those effin' hypocrites! Why couldn't just leave it be and be happy? She was happy for them, but...she assumed it was too much to ask from those racists. Sighing as she looked up at Kaz, unsure of what to do now. "You know what...let's just forget about them. Let them worry about themselves..." Jessi knew he was probably thinking something different, but she didn't want to leave because her class mates were being asses. She wanted to leave when she wanted to leave. But, if Kaz really wanted to leave, she'd go too. No reason to stay with a room full of jackasses...
